DEC! and Young People

Your journey to an exciting and challenging career starts here…

If someone says “Construction Career” to you, what springs to mind?… Bricklayer, Joiner, Plumber?

Would it surprise you to learn there are lots of other exciting professional careers in the Construction Industry (or Built Environment as it’s professionally known) that may not have the correctly skilled people to fill them, because young people, and even teachers, don’t know about them?

Would it also surprise you to learn that, until now, there has been no dedicated curriculum to encourage young people, like you, to explore these professional careers.

DEC! can help you get industry work experience & apprenticeships

there is more to construction than being a bricklayer.

“DEC! has helped develop my understanding of jobs in construction. I now know that there is more to construction than being a bricklayer. Job roles such as quantity surveying and construction management are two examples of job roles that I now have a better understanding about.

I also know about cadet programmes and graduate management schemes at Laing O’Rourke and Mott McDonald.”

Brad, DEC! Student

DEC! has opened up so many opportunities

“I wasn’t thrilled about this new subject; to me, it was a ‘nothing’ subject. I thought that Brad was wasting his time by choosing DEC! My first thought was that it was an easy subject used by the school to improve exam results for the Ofsted reports….How wrong I was.

DEC! has opened up so many opportunities for Brad, and now I’m so thrilled he went through with it! I am so proud of Brad and grateful for where he has ended up because of DEC!”

I saw the career opportunities that might emerge

Brad would tell me about his DEC! lessons when I picked him up from school, I was impressed with the industry methods and software being used and how much enthusiasm the students and teachers put into it. Then came all of the presentations and I saw how much industry professionals had got involved.

I saw the career opportunities that might emerge, and indeed they have. I am so happy that Brad has followed a career path into something that he thoroughly enjoys and I’m so proud of how far he has come since he took up Design Engineer Construct!®

I've learnt a lot in this experience

“I cannot thank you enough for helping me with finding work experience… I’ve learnt a lot in this experience therefore you’ve possibly helped me with my future studies and work…

I don’t know what I would have done without your help and input. You’ve made my life easier, therefore you had also made my Mum’s life easier as she was also supporting me through this.”
