Design a Jamie Oliver restaurant

We’ve teamed up with the Jamie Oliver Restaurant Group to launch an exciting free programme for schools that combines food, creativity and sustainability with careers in the Built Environment.

Students get a hands-on opportunity to explore the world of design, engineering and construction through the lens of health and well-being, reflecting Jamie Oliver’s ethos of balanced, nutritious food for healthy living.

By combining healthy living, sustainable design and bright ideas, young people will discover that positive change starts with the right ingredients.

It all happens in DEC School

DEC School is our dedicated online learning platform where teachers will guide students through the project.

Students start by designing a four-course menu for Jamie, focusing on nutritious, delicious food.

They then move on to design a Jamie Oliver restaurant that prioritises sustainability, community and well-being.

The project encourages students to understand how built spaces can positively affect the people who use them and the environment they inhabit.

Where it all began

Our new programme builds on the success of our 2016 Design Jamie’s Challenge, which saw two Clacton Coastal Academy DEC students, John Haylett and Sam Boone, design a Martello Tower restaurant concept.

John and Sam have since completed degree apprenticeships in building surveying and building services engineering. They have successful careers with leading employers in the built environment, demonstrating the life-changing potential of real-world projects in schools.

Now, our ‘Design a Jamie Oliver Restaurant’ DEC Discover Award invites a new generation of students to follow in their footsteps.
