Gardiner & Theobald, an independent global consultancy offering a range of services to the construction and property industry, will be sponsoring Heathcote School & Science College in Chingford to add the ‘Design Engineer Construct!’ GCSE and A Level courses to its curriculum through the Class of Your Own’s ‘Adopt a School’ scheme.
Peter Hansford, Government Chief Construction Adviser warmly welcomed G&T’s adoption of Heathcote School & Science College.
“It’s so important that firms and companies across the industry support schools and particularly teachers to inspire the next generation to consider careers in the built environment. I commend G&T for the leadership it is showing.”
G&T has a legacy of supporting projects and causes which create positive social impact. The intention is that G&T employees will be directly involved in mentoring teachers and hosting students by integrating the scheme into the firm’s own development and management programmes and in particular the Change the Skyline schools initiative which aims to attract youngsters into the profession.
Facilitating this on behalf of G&T will be Senior Partner and Deputy Chairman of the Construction Industry Council, Tony Burton, and Senior Associate, Claire McDonnell. Speaking on the positive impact this programme will have, Tony commented
“This is a programme that leaves a legacy. After two years’ sponsorship, donating both money and time, we will have enabled a school to teach a course in construction with all the necessary software, course materials and training. This won’t be an arms-length sponsorship, we intend to make sure that we take an active role in helping the school to benefit from our involvement in whatever way works best for them.”
Class of Your Own Managing Director, Alison Watson, commented “I am absolutely delighted that G&T has joined the growing number of industry organisations in supporting our Adopt a School scheme. To move so quickly in making the decision to come on board is a testament to G&T’s commitment to encourage young people to discover just how exciting the built environment can be.”
‘Adopt a School’ was recently launched to RICS members in order to address the Government’s industrial strategy, part of which set out a target to inspire young people to look to construction for a rewarding career. To achieve this, organisations involved will donate £6,000 a year for two years to provide training and resources for the adopted school to facilitate the course ‘Design Engineer Construct!’.
