Australia and England have always shared a friendly sporting rivalry – and now, that same energy is being channelled into education, design and construction through the official launch of COYO Australia and the Design Engineer Construct! (DEC) programme in Queensland.

An exciting England-Australia collaboration

COYO (Class Of Your Own) has proudly launched its award-winning built environment education programme ‘Design, Engineer, Construct!’ (DEC) in Queensland, in partnership with Queensland Cricket and Lancashire Cricket Foundation.

This marks the beginning of an exciting England–Australia collaboration to educate the future of construction.

At the heart of this launch is ‘Design a School Cricket Pavilion’ – an engaging design challenge where teams of 11 under-14 students from local schools take on professional roles to co-design a sustainable cricket pavilion and training ground.

Learning from the professionals

From Architects to Surveyors, Civil Engineers to Carbon Cost Specialists, students will learn how buildings are imagined, planned and built – with real guidance from globally recognised professional firms.

This isn’t just a challenge. It’s the creation of TEAM CONSTRUCTION – a cross-continental collective of teaching and industry professionals committed to building knowledge, skills, confidence and a strong sense of belonging for young people from all backgrounds.

The perfect time to inspire young people

With the Ashes on the horizon, and not too many years away, the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, this couldn’t come at a better time.

The need to develop a skilled, inspired future workforce for major infrastructure and community projects is real – and DEC is here to help make it happen.

Early adopters like Yarrabilba State Secondary College are already demonstrating the impact. Their students toured Queensland Cricket to explore design needs first-hand – and left with new career ambitions, which will be further enhanced in the coming weeks by Cox Architecture and Saunders Havill.

These leading Brisbane architecture and surveying practices are kindly lending their expertise to bring the student project to life.

A shared commitment to make a difference

Together, with a shared commitment from Australian and UK industry and education, we’re showing young people that they belong in the built environment. That they can make a difference. That they are part of the greatest team on earth.

TEAM CONSTRUCTION is here. And the game is on!
