DESIGN A MUSIC RECORDING STUDIO AND LIVE PERFORMANCE VENUE

An inspiring opportunity for East London Schools

As part of the BBC’s commitment to continuing the legacy of its Maida Vale music studios through its move to East Bank, the creative and cultural quarter on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, we are delighted to invite East London schools* to participate in this exciting architectural design and acoustic engineering challenge.

Meet and work with professionals
Through online resources and events, students will meet some of the musicians, artists, presenters and sound engineers who use the BBC studios.

Students and teachers will be supported with input from real architects, engineers and construction professionals, and final year music technology and built environment students from the University of East London.

Discover new and exciting career pathways
The project will enhance STEM learning, contribute to each school’s careers programme and offer students and teachers the opportunity to be involved in an exciting celebration at the end of the school year in 2021.

Groups that take part and complete the challenge will be awarded a certificate of achievement from the BBC, LLDC and COYO to recognise their participation in the programme.

The Design Brief

The BBC has commissioned you to design an independent music recording studio and intimate live performance venue near its new Stratford Waterfront building within the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.

The studio will be offered to musicians who are just starting out, giving them a place to rehearse, record and perform in a vibrant space of excellent acoustic quality.

The performance venue should accommodate a maximum audience of 300 people standing.

The entire building must be highly sustainable and inclusive.
